UJAGAR · PILOT IN DEVELOPMENT

THE MODEL

Start together.
Build independence.

Ujagar’s proposed pilot will work with 30 women in one low-income informal settlement in Islamabad. Ten groups of three women will each receive access to a shared stitching unit.

The model combines productive equipment and starter materials with business and financial training, regular coaching, savings and peer support, and customer and market connections.

It is designed for women facing overlapping economic and household barriers, including single mothers, widows, divorced or separated women and women who are primary household providers. Selection will use objective poverty indicators rather than family status alone.

THE SUPPORT PACKAGE

Productive assets

Shared equipment and starter inputs lower the cost of beginning.

Business skills

Practical support with pricing, costs, quality and customer care.

Regular coaching

Help to solve problems as a business takes shape.

Savings & peer support

Groups that strengthen confidence, habits and accountability.

Market connections

Branding, visibility, customer acquisition and links to buyers.

Learning & evidence

Track income, sales, customers, savings and economic agency.

EARLY WORK & NEXT STEPS

Learn first.
Then grow.

Early support for three women has provided directional learning. Participants reported increased income and customer bases, greater confidence and independence, and more control over their time.

These are early self-reported experiences, not results from a completed 30-woman pilot. The next step is to test the shared-enterprise model with structured monitoring and sustained market support.
